In Professional Boxing, Should Brothers Fight Brothers?

One thing that boxing has in common with many other sports is the fact that often members of the same family tend to pursue the same sporting activity. Most of us know families that have leanings toward a particular sport whether it be baseball, football, tennis, golf, boxing or a host of other sports. This trend typically starts in families when the children are quite young and parents are attempting to introduce their children to a variety of sports.

Often the kids end up together on the tennis courts joel embiid injury, football fields etc. until it becomes apparent that the kids differ in their enjoyment and abilities to excel in certain activities. Until that time it is fairly common for family members to enjoy participating in the same sports, and sometimes ending up competing against each other. This can happen during middle school years, high school years and beyond, sometimes even into professional careers Such was the case for the well-known Manning brothers, Peyton and Eli, who both have careers in professional football and who are both well-known and very talented at their sport. There is also the high-profile example of the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, who are professional tennis players of the highest caliber and who have often been matched up against each other.

While it seems acceptable that brothers might meet on the football field or sisters may face each other on the tennis court, it is a bit harder to stomach the idea of brothers putting on the boxing gloves and squaring off against one another in the ring. Boxing can be a rather brutal and punishing sport where opponents can suffer devastating and life-long consequences from a fight. Given this fact, it is difficult for many to watch brothers inflicting this type of punishment on one another.

Currently there are two brothers from the Ukraine, Vitali and Wlad Klitschko, who are top tier professional boxers. It is conceivable that they could be pit against one another for a championship fight in the near future. Will that happen? Not according to these brothers who long ago promised their mother that they would never allow themselves to get matched up against one another in the ring. The brothers feel that such a pairing would be a no-win situation. There are many who tend to agree with the Klitschkos and feel that there are some boundaries that should not be crossed.
